Every week, our drivers visit more than 40 grocery stores to recover items like produce, dairy, and meat. These nutrient-rich foods may no longer be sellable, but they’re still perfectly safe—and often make it to a neighbor’s kitchen the very same day.
This program delivers more than meals. It delivers the ingredients for overall well-being through stronger immune systems, and the prevention of chronic disease. It’s about food that fuels health, dignity, and a better quality of life for our neighbors.

A Lifeline of Nutrition
Each year, Retail to the Rescue saves nearly 4 million pounds of food—enough for 6.6 million meals. Without it, our shelves would be empty in three weeks.
Rescued Food, Restored Health
By rescuing good food, we fight hunger, protect health, and reduce waste. This work prevents over 13,800 metric tons of greenhouse gases each year—equal to removing 3,291 cars from the road.

Nearly one-third of our food comes from Retail to the Rescue, fresh, perishable items that support better health. We also help six partner agencies run their own pickups, expanding access to nourishing food across the community.
